Welcome to the Chaffey High School Professional Development Website!
About: The Chaffey High School Professional Development Website is intended to be a central information hub for Chaffey staff to gather information about professional development opportunities at our site and the district, to sign up for collaboration, workshops, or coaching, or share information about their own expertise. This is where teachers can find request forms, policies, deadlines, and feedback forms... all in one location.
The Site Staff Development Committee (SSDC) is made up of standing members and elected members from the Chaffey High School campus who wish to serve the school by providing professional development opportunities to staff members that enhances the learning of students.
Vision Statement: All students will graduate ready for college and careers.
Mission Statement: Chaffey High School's mission is to engage students in a rigorous curriculum that fosters ownership of learning and prepares all students for college and career success.
2019-2020 Professional Development Priorities: This year, based on a review of student data and teacher feedback, our needs assessment indicated that our professional development priorities shall be:
- Literacy across the curriculum
- Increased use of School Loop
- Shared accountability for CAASPP and CAST
- AVID and TCELL strategies
- Support our core content areas in the instructional shifts necessary to implement CCSS, NGSS, the Social Science Framework, the inclusion of the ELD standards/framework into all content areas, and the upcoming revised World Language Framework.
- Integration of technology to improve and enhance instruction
- Mentorship and peer-to-peer support across disciplines
Common Instructional Commitments: As teachers work on developing common instructional commitments, the following questions are considered:
- Where do we want our students to be?
- Where are they now?
- What are we committing to do in order to bridge that gap?
- How will we know it's working?
- What support do we need?
- When will we "check in?"
- How will we make our commitment(s) public?
These strategies are designed to bridge the gap between where our students are currently and where we desire them to be--college and career ready upon graduation.
PRIDE: This is the acronym for our School-wide Learner Outcomes (SLOs). It outlines what we expect of all our graduates.
- Prepared for College and Career
- Resourceful
- Information Literate
- Determined
- Effective Communicators
TCELL: With the help of many stakeholders, the District has developed this acronym to use as a guide for college and career readiness.
- Technology
- Career Exploration and Assessment
- Employability Skills
- Learning
- Life Skills
WICOR: This is a set of strategies that can be utilized to provide students with the skills they need to be college and career ready.

Achievement Teams
Currently, Chaffey High School has eight Achievement Teams that meet regularly to collaborate, plan lessons, and review student learning through careful analysis of formative and summative assessment data. This data drives the planning for interventions, such as reteaching, and planning for future lessons. It is a recursive process that requires teacher reflection and responsive teaching practices. The purpose of Achievement Teams is to increase student learning of the state standards and increase equity for ALL students. The achievement teams at the school are:
Instructional Rounds
Chaffey High School recently launched instructional rounds. A core group of teachers volunteered to pilot the initiative to develop protocol for the process and teacher feedback. The initial focus was to look for evidence of the gradual release of responsibility, checking for understanding, differentiation, and the use of technology for instruction and engagement. The goal in instructional rounds is to develop a culture of collaboration and the adoption of a proven pedagogy campus-wide. If you are a teacher who is interested in participating in instructional rounds, either as a teacher to be observed, or as a teacher who would like to participate in the rounds, please contact any member of the Site Staff Development Committee.
Chromebook Cohorts
Since the 2015-16 school year numerous teachers from Chaffey High School participated in Chromebook Cohort 1, Cohort 2, Cohort 3, and most recently Cohort 4, with other teachers from throughout the district. Each of the participating teachers received training during the summer and/or during the school year. Each teachers from Cohort 1 became a Trainer of Trainers, willing to assist other staff members with technology, model lessons, and keep their door open to visiting teachers. These teachers developed expertise in using Google Drive, Google Classroom, and many other educational applications that support learning and prepare our students for college and twenty-first century careers. Each participating teacher received two Chromebook carts, with a total of forty Chromebooks for use exclusively in their own classrooms.
